Five days at Electra Mining Africa 2026 gave us the opportunity to demonstrate EasyRoster, hear directly from industry professionals, and understand where workforce management is creating challenges across mining and its supporting service industries.
Exhibiting at the Johannesburg Expo Centre (Nasrec) in September, we met mine engineers, HR leaders, financial managers, and service providers working in security, cleaning, maintenance, and facilities management. Each brought a different perspective, but a common challenge emerged: keeping workforce information accurate, connected, and accessible.
A Familiar Challenge Across the Industry
Many of the people we spoke to already had systems and processes in place to manage their workforces. However, those processes often involved disconnected systems, manual checks, and paper-based records.
Our conversations highlighted the administrative effort needed to bring that information together. From planning shifts and managing overtime to verifying attendance and resolving pay queries, fragmented processes make it harder to maintain a clear view of workforce operations.
For mining companies and their service providers, this affects the ability to deploy available people with the right skills, manage labour costs, and maintain reliable records.
Bringing Workforce Operations Together
At our stand, we demonstrated how EasyRoster’s integrated, cloud-based workforce management platform can connect these activities, reduce duplication, and give teams a shared, reliable view of their workforce.
The capabilities that attracted particular interest included:
- Shift and overtime management: Planning workforce coverage and managing overtime.
- Time and attendance tracking: Maintaining accurate records to support payroll verification.
- Leave and availability planning: Understanding who is available before scheduling teams.
- Pay query management and employee self-service: Helping employees access information and raise queries.
- Payroll verification and audit support: Making workforce records easier to check and trace.
- Contractor workforce management: Improving visibility across third-party teams.
- Skills-based scheduling: Matching workforce deployment to operational requirements.
- Record-keeping and audit trails: Keeping information accessible for reporting and review.
- Rule-based scheduling: Supporting adherence to applicable labour requirements.
What stood out was the interest in how these capabilities work together. The discussions reinforced the value of connecting workforce planning, deployment, attendance, and payroll verification within one platform.
Taking the Conversations Forward
We left Electra Mining Africa with a clearer understanding of the workforce challenges facing the sector and the practical improvements organisations want to make.
The interest at our stand reinforced the demand for integrated solutions that reduce administration, improve operational visibility, and support compliance. EasyRoster has an opportunity to help mining companies and their service providers turn that demand into more efficient workforce processes.
Thank you to everyone who visited us, watched a demonstration, and shared their experiences. Your insights made our time at the exhibition valuable, and we look forward to continuing the conversations.
